Express Entry is Canada's flagship immigration system for skilled workers. It manages applications for three federal immigration programs and is designed to bring economic immigrants to Canada quickly and efficiently.
What is Express Entry?
Express Entry is a points-based system that ranks candidates based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Candidates with the highest scores receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence. The system operates across three main streams: Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
- Processing time: as fast as 6 months
- No job offer required (in most cases)
- Leads directly to Permanent Residence
- Draws happen every 2 weeks approximately
CRS Score Breakdown
Your CRS score is calculated from four main factors. Understanding each factor helps you maximize your score and improve your chances of receiving an ITA.
| Factor | Max Points |
|---|---|
| Core/Human Capital | 500 |
| Spouse/Partner Factors | 40 |
| Skill Transferability | 100 |
| Additional Points (Job offer, Provincial nomination) | 600 |
